What to expect

This immersive experience invites you to connect with the natural beauty of Oaxaca’s coast in a deeply meaningful way. Begin your journey with a visit to a local turtle conservation camp, where expert guides will explain the importance of sea turtle protection along the Pacific coast. You’ll learn about the nesting process, conservation efforts, and the role humans play in ensuring these endangered creatures survive. With a conservationist’s guidance, you’ll have the rare opportunity to gently release baby sea turtles into the ocean at sunset. Watching them take their first steps toward the sea is a powerful and emotional moment that stays with you forever. Later, after some light sightseeing in Puerto Escondido’s popular areas (if time allows), you’ll travel to Manialtepec Lagoon, a unique coastal ecosystem surrounded by mangroves. As night falls and the conditions are just right, you’ll witness the bioluminescent glow caused by millions of microscopic organisms known as dinoflagellates. These organisms react to movement in the water, lighting up with every splash and stroke. You can choose to swim in the glowing waters, an experience that feels otherworldly and peaceful. Even just dipping your hand in the lagoon will let you see the shimmering light swirl around you. Throughout the tour, your bilingual local guide will share fascinating facts about the region’s ecology, traditions, and wildlife, creating an enriching and unforgettable nature-based experience suitable for families, couples, and adventure-seekers alike.
